New Orleans Pelicans Hire Scoop Jardine as Scouting Consultant

The New Orleans Pelicans have made a significant move by hiring Scoop Jardine as their new NBA scouting consultant. The former Syracuse point guard announced his new role on social media, and the Pelicans have confirmed his appointment. Jardine has been involved with the franchise over the past year, working closely with Troy Weaver, the senior vice president of basketball operations, and assistant coach Mike Hopkins. His ultimate ambition is to become a general manager, either in the NBA or at a college basketball program, and he sees this position as a crucial step in building his resume.

In a recent phone conversation, Jardine expressed his excitement about the opportunity, stating, "Front office has always been my goal. This is a great first opportunity for myself. I've been around the game a long time, so I think this is a great position for myself." He plans to attend the NBA Summer League, Nike's EYBL, and other grassroots events, focusing on scouting players from high school to college and professional levels.

Jardine shared that the Pelicans want him to travel globally, from Europe to America, to evaluate talent and provide insights on players' potential transitions to the next level. He was recently in Syracuse, where he attended an Orange practice and connected with his former coach, Jim Boeheim, and teammate Arinze Onuaku, now an assistant coach at Syracuse.

While in Syracuse, Jardine also took the time to speak with the 2026-27 Syracuse team, sharing his thoughts on their potential. He noted that while they may not pass the initial 'look test,' their skills on the court are impressive. He highlighted players like Kiyan Anthony and Gavin Doty, praising their unique abilities and potential contributions to the team.
